Important disaster recovery information for those in the affected area.


To: Ferguson Residents within the Designated Disaster Area

You are receiving this information because you live within the designated disaster area. Below we have listed information on assistance the City will be providing residents during the recovery from the May 31, 2013 tornado.

Tree Debris Removal

Place tree debris at your curb (but not in the street) and Ferguson Public Works and contractors hired by the City will be removing it as they work through the affected area. To assist with the removal, please place the debris in neat piles with sticks parallel to the curb or street. This will allow for our equipment to easily grab the piles.

The removal will take place in two passes; the first pass will begin on Thursday, June 6. The last pass will begin on Monday, June 17. All debris must be at the curb by June 17. If you need assistance getting debris to the curb, please call City Hall 314-521-7721. We can place your name on a list to be given to volunteers who will be in the area for the next several weeks.

If you hire a tree removal service, they must also haul away the debris they cut down. Contracted service typically includes costs for removal. This will aid the City in expediting the clean-up and ensuring that they may attend to those areas most in need.

Trash/Other Debris Removal

Republic Services (formerly Allied Waste) will continue their normally scheduled pick up. Please make sure your trash is placed at the curb on your usual day. Their yard waste pick up program will be temporarily increased to allow for pickup of additional yard waste generated by the storm. Yard waste should conform to Republic’s usual yard waste standards (4 foot lengths, no larger than 18 inches in diameter) but does not have to be bundled.

Bulky items from cleanup (such as siding or house debris) should still be called into Republic Services in advance.

If you wish to rent trash dumpsters, the City will waive the required permit. However, please make sure the dumpster is stored on a hard surface off of City streets. This will ensure the street is clear for emergency personnel and maintenance crews.

Please be conscious of on-street parking during this process. Do not block traffic lanes so work crews can safely and efficiently navigate the streets. We appreciate your patience during this process. City staff and other agencies are working diligently to clean up and secure the affected area, however, because of the scope of the destruction it will take time to complete. As we receive further information, we will be posting it on the City’s website and on our social media pages.
