Phedra Nelson is a proud 20-year resident of Ferguson Missouri and currently services as Councilperson for Ward One. She is a graduate of Trinity High School of North County and received a Bachelor of Art in Human Services/Social Work from Fontebonne University. She is a 2019 Neighborhood Leadership Fellows Graduate. Phedra has been employed with The Gateway Region YMCA for 21 years and served in a number of positions at the Emerson Family YMCA, for 10 of those years she served as Membership and Marketing Director over seeing an annual budget of $690,000.00, for the next 7 years Phedra served as the Healthy Schools, Healthy Communities Director through a grant received from The Missouri Foundation for Health and in that capacity Phedra provided leadership for the construction of Halpin Unity Park in Ward Three. Phedra currently serves as the Senior Program Director of Membership and Health & Wellness and supervises a team of thirty health & wellness champions. She attends Westside Missionary Baptist Church and is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Gamma Omega Chapter. Being a resident of Ferguson for more than 20 years, she has such grand respect and loyalty to her community because it is where she Lives, Works, Learns and Plays!
