Mayor James Knowles III grew up in Ferguson at 1123 Renshaw Dr. near Forestwood Park. He attended Griffith Elementary, Ferguson Middle School, and graduated from McCluer Sr. High in 1997. James has been a resident of Ferguson for over 25 years and is currently residing at 139 Scott Ave., near Jeske Park. He purchased a foreclosed home and is in the process of remodeling.
James graduated from Truman State University with bachelor’s degrees in both Political Science and Criminal Justice. He is currently serving as a Political and Public Relations Coordinator for Independent Electrical Contractor’s Association of Greater St. Louis while pursuing his Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration at UM St.-Louis. He is a former employee of the Ferguson Police Department, serving nearly 4 years in the communications division. James has also served on staff with former Senator Ted House of the Missouri Senate.
James is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ferguson, serving on the Board of Deacons. He is also a member of Master’s Lodge 542 AF&AM as well as the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.
James’ family owns and operates a local HVAC company at 34 N. Florissant Rd., Knowles Heating and Cooling. He is also a second generation Ferguson City Council Member, his father having served representing the first Ward.
