August 16 Vision Session: Goals and Objectives
Preliminary Goals and Objectives
HOUSING
Goals:
1. Increase homeownership/Reduce rental housing
    o Eliminate obsolete housing
    o Update housing to be attractive to homeownership
    o Maintain integrity of neighborhood housing styles
2. Preserve quality & viable housing stock
    o Strengthen and speed up code enforcement process
    o Seek interior inspections
    o Promote financial assistance programs
    o Preserve historical homes
    o Showcase a variety of styles and affordability of the local housing stock
3. Promote responsible tenancy
    o “Welcome wagon”
    o Promote homeownership maintenance and aesthetics
4. Promote a positive perception of the Ferguson community
    o Broaden Ferguson’s exposure throughout the St. Louis region

SAFETY
Goal:
1. To be safe & secure in one’s home & throughout Ferguson
    o Take a proactive approach to one’s safety
        § “Adopt a property”
        § Promote immediate safety issues
        § Get to know neighbors
    o More police enforcement of speeding, litter, loitering, & vandalism laws
    o Improve communication & feedback from the police dept.
    o Add police officers

INFRASTRUCTURE AND BEAUTY
Goals:
1. Beautification of neighborhoods and infrastructure to create an eye-pleasing presentation when you enter Ferguson
    o Reduce unkempt properties
        § Strengthen relationship with code enforcers & public works
    o Create a pride and sense of ownership that fosters a sense of accountability
    o Modernize the infrastructure
        § Improve drainage in creeks
        § Improve the look of the streets
        § Bury power lines
        § Eliminate billboards
        § Keep sidewalks in good repair

COMMUNITY BUILDING
Goals: 
1. Build a sense of community
    o Help erase the division between east & west OFW
    o Encourage pride in OFW regardless of tenure
    o Help neighbors in need
        § Make community agencies better known
    o Back new & existing businesses
    o Increase involvement in neighborhood organization
    o Work with city officials to continue involvement with the neighborhood org.
2. Encourage grassroots activism in the neighborhood
    o Deepen involvement with the neighborhood org.
    o Build relationships with:
        § NorthPark businesses
        § Neighboring municipalities (neighbors and businesses)
        § OFW businesses
3. Create diverse activities for all age groups
   
o Create age-appropriate activities
    o Work with: 
        § Schools
        § Churches for increased opportunities
        § City of Ferguson
    o Hold block parties
    o Encourage the creating of a dog park @ Dade Park

EDUCATION
Goal:
1. Create a balanced school population reflective of the neighborhood or neighborhood demographics
    o Communicate to the city & school district officials the concerns of the OFW community regarding school population at Central School
