City of Ferguson Installs Red Light Cameras
Ferguson, Missouri: The City of Ferguson has installed and activated red light cameras at three high accident intersections. The cameras have been installed at the intersections of I-270 and West Florissant Road, I-270 and New Halls Ferry Road and Pershall Road and New Halls Ferry Road.
The next thirty days will serve as a warning period for motorists. During the warning period, violators will receive a notice of violation but will not be required to respond. The warning period will end on September 22, 2011, after which live enforcement will begin.
Red light cameras are triggered when a vehicle violates a steady red light signal or violates a right turn on steady red signal. The cameras take two digital photos to document the violation. The citation is mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle but is not considered a "point violation" on the owner's driving record. Included on the citation is a web link for the owner to view the actual recorded video of the violation when it occurred. The program operates 24/7 and in all weather conditions. All intersections with red light cameras are clearly marked with signs indicating "Photo Enforced."
