[ARCHIVED] Recall Effort for Mayor James Knowles III, Lacks Valid Signatures

(Ferguson, MO) – For the second time in less than 30 days, the recall effort for Mayor James Knowles III, lacks the required number of valid signatures. The St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners notified the City of Ferguson this afternoon.

The petitioners turned in signatures for a second time on Friday, June 19, 2015. The St. Louis County Board of Election Commissioners began verifying all signatures on Monday, June 22, 2015. According to the Ferguson charter (Section 8.4.1) the Ferguson City Clerk must complete a Certificate specifying the insufficient number of invalid signatures by mail to the petitioners today.
The final Certificate will then be presented to the City Council and the Certificate “shall then be a final determination as to the sufficiency of the petition.” (Section 8.4.1)

“My goal has always been to focus on bringing this community together, building trust, and moving us forward as one community,” said Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III. “If one person signed the recall petition, it sends a strong message to me that there is still plenty of work to do. I am committed to working with all parties to make our community a better place to live, for everyone,” added Knowles.”
