Ferguson, MO (pop. 21,111) The Mayor and City Council for Ferguson, Missouri are seeking strong communicators who are personable, energetic, confident leaders to serve as the city’s next City Manager. Located 12 miles west of St. Louis in St. Louis County, Ferguson has a $24 million budget and 110 full time and 40 part-time employees. The next City Manager can expect to work closely with elected officials who are cohesive, thoughtful and dedicated to moving Ferguson forward. In addition, the City’s employees are dedicated and hardworking, and open to a highly collaborative leader and Manager. The next City Manager must be a natural communicator, very comfortable with the media, community organizations, residents and business leaders. The next City Manager must have experience working in a racially diverse community, with the ability to build consensus with many stakeholders to move forward on the community’s priorities. Additional specific skills sets include financial planning and budgeting, economic development, organizational development and succession planning. The next City Manager will be someone who embraces community involvement and visibility, with a strong desire to attend the City’s neighborhoods meetings, farmer’s market, concerts in the park, July 4th and other events as well as be out in the community, interacting with residents and businesses. The City of Ferguson operates under a charter with a strong Council-Manager form of government. The City Manager is appointed by the Mayor and City Council and is responsible for the appointment and supervision of the department heads. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration or related field. A Master’s degree in public administration or business or other advanced degree is highly desirable. Candidates should have a minimum of ten years of increasingly responsible leadership and management experience. Salary is $120,000+ DOQ. Residency in Ferguson within a reasonable period of time is required.
