Ferguson, Mo., October 28, 2015- At approximately 1:53pm., A Ferguson Police Lieutenant was driving southbound on Bermuda when he was contacted by a citizen who was following an 18 year old reported to be distraught. Simultaneously, the Normandy Police Department was contacted by a family member of the same subject who stated he believed he was suicidal.
Both family members and the police worked to create dialogue with the 18 year old, however, he was not responsive. Officers from Ferguson and other law enforcement agencies followed the young man into a residential neighborhood.
As the officers got close, the 18 year old took a gun from his waistband and shot at the officers. Officers returned fire, but did not strike the subject. The 18 year old fled the scene on foot and officers found him close by with what appeared to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital in serious condition.
Officers at the scene worked to resuscitate the young man, applying pressure to the wound. The 18 year old was transported to the hospital, where he is in critical condition. The St. Louis County Police Department is investigating the entire incident.
