[ARCHIVED] Community Policing Scholarship DEADLINE EXTENDED

General Information: The City of Ferguson Community Policing Scholarship was created in February 2015 as a way to promote the law enforcement field within North St. Louis County. This scholarship would enable the recipient to attend the St. Louis County Police Academy at no cost and be considered a full-time employee of the City, meaning she or he would qualify for all standard full-time benefits.

Upon successful completion of the Academy, the recipient would receive a conditional offer of full-time employment as a Police Officer for the City of Ferguson. As a recipient of the scholarship, s/he would be expected to work for the Ferguson Police Department for a minimum of three years. The recipient shall be required to reimburse to the City all costs associated with academy scholarship if the recipient fails to remain in the department as a Police Officer for fewer than three years.

General Requirements: Applicants must be a citizen of the United States and be at least 21 years of age by April 2016. They must also be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D. equivalent. All applicants must undergo a background check and cannot have been convicted of any felony offenses or any misdemeanors involving drugs or crimes against persons, including assault. All applicants must otherwise meet all eligibility requirements of the St. Louis County Police Academy. All applicants must meet specific physical requirements set forth by the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Preference will be given to residents of the City and to graduates of the three school districts serving the City of Ferguson.

Physical Requirements: Applicants must be free of any impediment of the senses and be physically capable to take on the rigorous responsibilities of the job. The selected candidate will undergo a fitness test and physical. Failure to complete or pass either will result in the withdrawal of the scholarship.

Character Commitment: An applicant or person in the process, attending the academy or in any phase of the policing process cannot associate with criminal activity, crime or anything that would discredit the agency or the professional. Doing so is grounds for dismissal from the program.
