Ferguson City Council members appointed Laverne Mitchom as a replacement for deceased council member Brian Fletcher during its meeting on Tuesday, February 9. The unanimous decision allows Mitchom to fill Fletcher’s remaining term that will end in April, 2018.
Fletcher passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016 at the age 56. He was elected on April 6, 2015 as a Ward 2 Council Member.
Mitchom stated in her application to the City of Ferguson that she wanted to help the City become One Ferguson. “I want to represent citizens’ interests, concerns and be a voice for them,” said Michom. “I want to help Ferguson go from a tragedy to a community which is united and becomes a good place to live and work.”
Mitchom received a bachelor of arts degree and a masters of science degree from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.
