Traffic Violations
All uniform traffic citations show the court date, and on the top left-hand side of the ticket, the description of the offense violation and penalty code are towards the bottom. (See sample ticket below.) Violations listed on the Uniform Fine Schedule may be paid in advance and do not require a court appearance. A court appearance is required for all other violations not listed on the Uniform Fine Schedule or if the traffic violation involved a vehicle accident.
If your violation is listed on the Uniform Fine Schedule, no accident was involved, AND you wish to plead GUILTY without appearing in Court:
- Pay online at www.court.mo.gov . You must have the citation/ticket number to pay online.
- Obtain a cashier’s check or money order in the appropriate amount (see Uniform Fine Schedule – please take note of the court cost increase after on or after 2/1/2021) made payable to the City of Ferguson and the ticket number in the notes/memo. Mail the payment to Ferguson Municipal Court 110 Church Street, Ferguson, MO 63135 before the court date.

Ability to Pay Determination
If you feel that you are indigent and are unable to pay a fine or complete community service, you can request an ability to pay determination hearing at your court date. You will be required to fill out the Statement of Financial Condition form. A copy of the form can be found under the Forms section or will be provided to you at your court date.
Community Service
If you are interested in performing community service in lieu of paying a fine, you will need to ask the Judge on your court date. The Judge is the only person that can convert fines to community service hours. If you have already been assigned community service hours by the Judge, a list of places that they may be completed along with the time sheet is listed below.
If the defendant fails to make the required payments, legal action may be taken against the defendant by the court for the entire balance. Failure to comply with the payment plan schedule may result in:
1. The entire balance is due to the court immediately.
2. Future tax refunds being intercepted for past due amounts.
3. Delinquent amounts are being turned over to a collection agency.
4. Delinquent amounts are being reported to credit reporting agencies.
5. No payment agreement shall be issued unless a complete and accurate Social Security Number is provided.
6. I must immediately advise the court of any change in address, phone number, or employment.
7. The court clerk cannot grant an extension of payment dates; only the Judge can.
COURT OPERATING RULE 21.09 | PAYMENT PLANS
All courts shall utilize the approved statewide case management system and shall establish payment plan policies and procedures consistent with Rule 37.65 and sections 543.270, 558.004.4, and 558.006, RSMo. Prior to entering an order for a payment plan, when a fine, fee, or cost is assessed, or thereafter any time a fine, fee, or cost is due, if the defendant/debtor states he or she is unable to pay the amount then due, the judge shall inquire as to the defendant's/debtor's ability to pay.
If the defendant/debtor has the ability to pay but is unable to pay when assessed or due or the defendant/debtor has no ability to pay, the court shall comply with the procedures set forth in Rule 37.65.
