City Department Updates
The City of Ferguson is taking precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Every governmental entity’s (the federal government, the state of Missouri, St. Louis County, the city of Ferguson) reaction and steps to combat and react to the Covid-19 Virus outbreak will change between the time this is written and the time you read it. This is a very fluid situation and will continue to be so for some time. That said, a lot of what we all need to do is common sense. In that vein, the City wanted to share an update on some of preventative measures we are taking to stop the spread of the COVID-19 Virus.
First, our Public Safety, Police and Fire, have been significantly involved in acquiring information, meeting and planning with state and county officials regarding preparedness. It is important that we have the most up to date information and best practices on handling this virus. The City will be using its social media platforms to update the residents.
A significant proportion of the city’s work activities are outward facing, either with internal or external customers. Our Police, Fire, Courts, Code Enforcement and others work with the public every day. Each department has created a plan to help protect both the public’s and our employees’ health and prevent the spread of the virus. If you call police or fire for assistance, please be aware and please be patient. To better assess the necessary response to your need, you will be asked a series of questions.
The city has canceled all non-critical public meetings like boards and commissions and neighborhood group or association meetings for the time being. Public buildings are being cleaned and disinfected daily to protect employees and our visiting public.
Certain public buildings like the Fire Houses, the Community Center and the Event Center are being closed. City Hall will be open by appointment. The Police Department will be open on a limited basis.
Right now, we are focused on carrying out our mission while staying safe and protecting peoples’ health with appropriate measures, against the backdrop early and limited exposure. We will continue to follow the lead of our local, state and federal leaders as this situation unfolds.
