Trash, Recycling, & Yard Waste
Disposal of regular household waste for the City of Ferguson is provided under contract with Republic Services. These services are required for all residential housing units within the city limits. Please the Public Works Office to establish a solid waste collection.
All containers should be placed at the curb after 4:30 p.m. the evening before scheduled pickup and no later than 6:30 a.m. on your collection day. Collection hours are 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., except under unusual circumstances Trash containers must be removed from the curb by 8:00 p.m. the day of scheduled pickup.
Fees & Billing
Bills will be sent out on a quarterly basis. Payment needs to be remitted to Republic Services along with return stub. For billing inquiries please contact Republic Services at 636-947-5959. Discounts are available for senior citizens. Please see the "Discounts" tab below for details.
Trash, Recycling, & Yard Waste Education Center
Republic Services observes six holidays per year:
- New Years Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
On a week when there is an observed holiday, each pick-up day will be serviced just one day later. For example, as Memorial Day always takes place on a Monday, during that week, Monday pick-up will be provided on Tuesday, Tuesday pickup will be on Wednesday, and so on.
Bulk Items (Furniture, Appliances, etc.)
Bulky trash collection is limited to three items per pickup and must be scheduled three days in advance with Republic Services at 636-947-5959. The pickup will fall on your last pickup day of the month. *Please note that there is an additional charge for this service
Large household appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, washers and dryers, water heaters, trash compactors, dishwashers, microwave ovens, stoves, and air conditioners will be picked up by appointment only and are subject to a $20-25 charge. *Note: appliance doors must be removed or secured with strapping tape and placed door-side down on the curb.
Republic Services will provide a discount to all residential units where the head of household is 65 years old or older. In order to qualify for the discount, residents must meet the following requirements:
- Home must be owner occupied
- Provide copy of ID/Driver’s License to Public Works at Ferguson City Hall
Public Works will notify Republic Services and your discount will be reflected on your next statement. Contact the Public Works Department at 314-521-7721 for more information.
Yard waste will be collected on the same day with your normal trash pickup, at the curbline only. Yard waste needs to be placed at the curbline prior to 6 a.m. on collection day. Yard waste cannot be mixed with your regular trash, it must be placed in a separate paper bag or container marked yard waste. Brush must be cut to four-foot lengths and bundled no larger than 18 inches in diameter. *Tree trunks, branches larger than six inches, and root balls are considered trash.
Recyclables will also be collected on the same day with your normal trash pickup, at the curbline only. Recycling containers need to be at the curbline prior to 6 a.m. on collection day. Recyclables will not be accepted in an unmarked container or plastic bags.
There are many benefits to the city and the environment from recycling and we encourage everyone in our community to participate. We thank all of you that are participating in the recycle program already.
Although we strongly encourage everyone to participate in the recycling program, if you are not using your container, please contact Public Works at 314-521-8373 so we may pick up your container.
Items Not to Be Collected
The following items will not be collected:
- Construction materials
- Hazardous waste
- Hot ashes
- Liquid Paint
- Vehicle parts
